Why so silent, John?

Photo from justjared.buzznet.com

John Mayer is known to have quite the reputation throughout Hollywood and the media, whether it be from his womanizing ways to his outlandish quotes.

Hearing that the Grammy Award winning singer would pass up a press opportunity seems almost incomprehensible, but the day has finally arrived.

Mayer avoided all contact with the media Monday night while on the red carpet for VH1’s Save The Music gala, according to an E! Online report. This comes after he decided to stop ‘tweeting’ this past September.

This is quite surprising since in the past he would never pass up an opportunity to talk to media, have his opinions and ideas heard, and basically just try to be the center of attention.

He was quoted before saying, "Sometimes I wish that I was the weather, you'd bring me up in conversation forever. And when it rained, I'd be the talk of the day." This is yet more evidence of Mayer wanting to be on the tip of people’s tongue, and don’t even get me started on how strikingly intelligent this makes him sound as well.

Mayer is usually not one to hold back on what he is feeling either. During interviews he has given personal details about relationships he has had with Hollywood starlets, such as Jessica Simpson and Jennifer Aniston.

He has spoken very candidly about his relationship with Simpson, saying that she was like “crack cocaine” to him and their relationship was like “sexual napalm.”

Seeing this outspoken nature in his past, it makes me wonder what has changed. Is there something new in Mayer’s life that he is trying to keep secret from the media? Or is he simply trying to change his ways after backlash from fans and some media over comments that he has made?

Either way I am completely content with him keeping his mouth shut. I love Mayer’s music, but he makes it really hard to respect him as a person when I hear some of the things that come out of his mouth.

Keep up the good work John!

The Speidi Saga Continues

It’s a real life version of the flower pedal game we used to play as kids, are they together or are they not? This game could seemingly go on forever when talking about Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt.

Photo from people.com
We all know that this rollercoaster of a relationship began on “The Hills” and has been in the public eye ever since. We just can’t get away from ‘Speidi.’

It was greatly publicized this summer that the couple was separated and had filed for divorce.  That’s not dramatic enough though, because according to the 'Today Show' the divorce would become finalized on Valentine’s Day in 2011.

But fear not my friends, Montag and Pratt are back together once again. Apparently they found a new flower to pick from.

Montag called off the divorce last month and is already back to talking about how happy she and Pratt are together, according to People magazine. They were even in Las Vegas together to celebrate Halloween. How precious!

I can only hope that this doesn’t lead to a new storm of Speidi publicity stunts, as they have a long list of acts in the past.

There were first their many feuds with friends and family while on “The Hills.” Pratt went through a stage of not speaking to his own sister and throwing a fit if they were in the same place, and even yelled at Montag’s mother on a couple of occasions.

Montag tried to launch a music career, the album was ironically called “Superficial,” but no one would take her on and produce it. They then made a big deal about producing the album themselves and of Pratt filming the music video of Montag prancing on the beach.

Perhaps the biggest scandal so far has been Montag’s plastic surgery insanity. Just last November she underwent 10 procedures at once, all at the ripe old age of 23. Afterwards she talked about how she was finally the “real” her.

Neither of these people have done anything beneficial for society, so why we keep paying attention to them and playing into their publicity stunts is a mystery to me. I hope that their games are over now that they are back together, but that’s on the off chance that they have a legitimate relationship and are actually trying to make it work.

Otherwise I hope the media can shut them out and we can all live in a Speidi free world.

Linsday LoDough

Photo from cbsnews.com

It seems the last few months that people can’t go a couple of days without hearing about Lindsay Lohan in the celebrity news. Article after article has discussed her drug problem, upcoming court dates and rehab stints.

Here is a new one though, Lohan is poor!

Earlier this month, after failing two drug tests while on probation, Lohan checked herself back into rehab in hopes of making herself look good to the judge.

The sad part is, it actually worked. At her court appearance on Friday Lohan was given no further jail time and was ordered back to the Betty Ford Center until at least Jan. 3, 2011.

She should be thrilled with this result in my opinion, because I can’t think of too many people who would avoid jail after failing drug tests while on probation. Apparently that is not enough for her though.

A People magazine article reports that Lohan stated she can no longer continue to pay for the treatment program and needs to work. It also states that a 90-day stay typically costs $53,000.

If the former mega celebrity is running that low on funds, then maybe this is just the wake up call she needs. Lohan would not even be in this situation if she had never started using drugs, and later made to pay fines, lawyers and treatment costs.

If she really wants to work in order to maintain her lifestyle, Lohan needs to straighten out her life and stop making excuses. She needs to be grateful that she was not sent back to jail and given the chance to remain in rehab where she can make a full recovery.

If she doesn’t do this, Lohan will only end up down the same path in the future. She will not be working and paying, both financially and in terms of her career, for her mistakes.

Now all we have to do is sit back and see which path she chooses.

Dear Kayne West... Please Stick To Rapping

Kayne West is set to release his new album late in November, so he obviously has to do something obnoxious in the mean time to get his name at the tip of everyone’s tongue.

Instead of letting the music, and its subsequent reviews, speak for itself; West is drawing attention to the album’s cover art, which features a cartoon-like drawing of a naked male and female in a suggestive position.

While this may have become an issue later, West has beaten everyone to the punch and is putting the words right in their mouths. According to E! Online he tweeted on Sunday that his album cover had been banned from Wal-Mart stores. He also went on to say, “In all honesty…I really don't be thinking about Walmart when I make my music or album covers.”

If he doesn’t consider Wal-Mart in the first place, then why is he concerned about it now? I don’t believe that West is concerned at all about his fans that would possibly not be able to purchase his album if it is not sold in Wal-Mart. Instead I find his main concern to be maintaining his image within Hollywood.

Job well done! He has successfully made himself look like the self-centered, quick-to-speak idiot that we all know and don’t all love.

In an Entertainment Weekly article, Wal-Mart clarified that it has not banned the album and in fact looks forward to selling it in stores upon release. Maybe West should think about checking his facts before he opens his mouth next time.

One of his last tweets states, “I wanna sell albums but not at the expense of my true creativity.” I think that his true creativity is opening his mouth, and not just for rapping, which he has done on more than just this occasion.

Many people are aware of the stunt West pulled at the 2009 Video Music Awards, where he went up on stage and stole the microphone from Taylor Swift and chastised the audience for not choosing Beyoncé as the winner of the award.

This just shows once again that he is no stranger to controversy and it doesn’t seem like the new album will be any different. I can only hope that in the future West will be confident enough that his music will draw enough attention and will keep his mouth shut.

Kim Kardashian Finally Confident?

An article on Oct. 12 on E! Online talks about Kim Kardashian posing for W magazine, completely nude with only strategically placed textboxes.
While it isn’t surprising that she is posing nude yet again, there was a comment in the article that took me slightly by surprise.
E! quoted Kardashian from the W magazine article saying, “I used to think, I have to be this or that or skinny, and now, because of the show, everyone is embracing just me, which has given me such a confidence.”
This comment raised several flags for me.
First, if she was experiencing such a lack of confidence before, her actions did not give that impression. It seems to me like someone who was not confident with his or her figure would not have posed nude in the past as well.
Kardashian was on the cover of Playboy in 2007, along with a 10-page spread inside. She was also nude on the cover of Harper’s Bazaar in April of this year.
For someone feeling pressure from the media to be thin and lacking confidence in her body, she sure did not seem to have a problem flaunting it wherever she could.
The image that she portrays to the public through these photos does not match with how she felt about herself, according to the quote.
In the article that accompanied her Harper's Bazaar photo shoot Kardashian said, “I’m sorry I did Playboy. I was uncomfortable.”
I cannot help but wonder, if you regretted it the first time, what would possess you to do it again?
The next issue that I have with this quote is how contradictory it seems when compared with her endorsement of Quick Trim.
Quick Trim is a diet pill that was released in 2009 and is endorsed by Kardashian and her sister Khloe.
If she were really happy with her curves and confident, as she states, she would not be supporting a product that would supposedly help her to get rid of them.
Promoting this product sends the message to people that that they need to be thinner. This is an issue that she stated she felt before and has now moved past, but it would seem as though she has not.
She is simply perpetuating the problem of body image that many young girls face today, and she herself has been a victim of, by supporting an easy solution, Quick Trim.
If Kardashian wants to continue to pose nude for magazines she needs to ensure in the future that these images remain consistent with her statements and other endeavors.
